tuesday morning we had wyatt's pre-op appointment with dr. matthews.
we waited for 1.5 hours....
now, wyatt is busy. i mean balls to the walls busy. it was very hard keeping him entertained in a waiting room for that long.....
BUT, i did see a mother in there as she was leaving with her twins. twin girls.
one had a cleft, the other did not.
i had to talk to her.
i went up to her, saw the sweet babies but passed right over the one without the cleft. to be honest, i can't even remember her face. the one with the cleft, i could draw her now. so cute.
i told the mother what an amazing job she was doing and that i know how hard it is, but not how it would be with TWINS! then she told me she had 3 other girls at home....3!!!!!! i then gave her a hug and almost started crying. what a supermom. 5 girls and one that takes and requires a lot of time and attention. she was doing a great job. so, if you see anyone like her, with a little more on her plate than others, and you are a mother, tell her what a good job she is doing. tell her you know being a mother is hard. we need to stick together.
anyway, once we finally saw dr. matthews, wyatt was having none of it. he was hungry, crying, not happy.
we were fitted with more tubes since the others were too big, he told me to still keep the big ones, we would need them later. como??? later? how long is he wearing these tubes???!!! you told me 4 months. 4 months we did. now we are going on 6. i hate it. i am OVER these tubes. but, again, it isn't about me.
update on surgery: surgery will start at 7am and dr. mair will put in his right ear tube. then dr. matthews will close his hard palate.
it will be a 1.5-2 hour surgery, much better than last time.
he will stay overnight. he will have a tongue suture. i asked about that....what if he pulls at it? "he might and then he won't again" oh God.
no hard food for a month because we don't want the work to be ruined.
i started to freak because he is finally eating so well. i asked about everything he eats and PTL, the only thing that has to go is his gluten free bread because it is a bit hard. pasta, pancakes, soft veggies, etc can all stay.
i worry about the recovery in the hospital this time. he was 7 months old at his last surgery. a bit easier to hold and calm down. he was pulling up then, but now, how will i ever get him to stay in a crib for over 24 hours? i told jack that i needed him to tell me to leave sometime. tell me to get food because i will want to be right beside him 27/7 i didn't leave to walk around last time until an hour before we were released. i slept in the crib and hardly ever went to the bathroom. i know i will be the same way. i know he will only want me. but i also know, to be a better mom, i need a break sometimes. you live and learn. by surgery #3, we will have this down to a tee...
so, that is all i know. we will be at CMC at 5am october 2nd.
these dates will forever be ingrained in my body until the day i die. just like the day you give birth, you never forget it. well, you never forget when your child has to have something like this done. never.
but you know what? i have the most wonderful support system. it shows by how much we raised for dr. matthews foundation. $12,140 is the total now. AMAZING!
wyatt, when you read this one day, please know that so many people are touched by your spirit and each one gave out of the goodness of their hearts to help other children receive the care from your doctor. you are a lucky little boy.
lucky to have these people pray for you. i am forever grateful.
please pray for our little boy that day.
pray for the anesthesiologist to watch over him, pray for dr. matthews hands to be delicate and precise. pray for wyatt's strong spirit to endure pain like a rockstar like last time. pray for jack and myself to be strong and be the best that we can be for him and pray for big brother lawton to have patience and not miss being out of his home for a few days.
xoxo
Dear Wyatt,
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that we pray for you endlessly, and its been such an honor to watch your journey from afar. I have my bad days, but given the amount of pain, change, and discomfort that your journey requires, I'm constantly reminded that shit is not that serious. Sorry for the bad word, but your mom will tell you that I have a potty mouth. I know that you will kick ass next month and beyond!! We love you cowboy.
Law Dog-Cavities suck and I'm sorry if you're in any pain, BUT i personally consider them badges of honor, so welcome to the club;-) You are a G!!
Love to the Halls.
