we only stayed for a few hours but ended up trying out wyatt's first cake
he is into everything so, the minute i took it out of the case, his hands were in it
 hmmm....
happy birthday wyatt!
this was his face the whole time we were singing to him

 ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
 not my waving hand!!
 get it off!!
okay, i'll have it ;)

Happy 1st Birthday William Wyatt! what a year.....

one year ago, i gave birth to a little boy that changed our lives forever.
there was so much unknown, so much to learn, and so much love.
i was shocked that i was having you in JULY. you were due august 16th and i thought you would come early, but july?! I truly think God did that to let my anxieties go away, so that i could see you, hold you, protect you and love you.
william wyatt hall 6 pounds 14 ounces
it took a few weeks for us to get on track with the bottles, you lost some weight in the beginning, once we got going, you were good. daddy and i got up countless times in the nights for me to pump, while someone else pumped the bottle to feed you, then keep you upright so that  we were sure you didn't choke. you slept in the middle of us for months, upright because it was best for you, dr's orders. there were a few times when we woke suddenly to you choking and wyatt, let me tell you, you have really scared this mama! BUT, you pulled though the feedings and taught me along the way.
we thought from the moment you came into our lives you were perfect. i knew when i found out that you would have a cleft, you would be beautiful. look at you! you were and are! people would look at you and smile -- everyone loves a baby, but one that smiles like you? different story. you smiled through your blue eyes and that gummy wide grin. still do. you are a happy, healthy boy.

after we got our routine down, we had a easy few months ;) your smile is so contagious and i began to really get sad when i thought about your upcoming surgery to change your face. i knew it would be for the better for you speech wise, eating, etc, but as a mother, i was so in love with this face that i was very sad to never see your cleft again.
but as you can see, this needed to be done.
so, i had to have a photo shoot to capture every single look, every emotion, all the little things you did with your face and lauren jackson hit the nail on the head!! i got everything i needed!

then surgery day was here, march 20. the moment they wheeled you away, i was a wreck. i would never see you with your cleft again. it was emotional to say the least. i had no idea what you would look like, just like the day you were born. we waited, and our family and friends were beside us to keep things light and let us try to forget where we were for a few hours. i have to say, it helped so much, i actually had a good time and knew you were taken care of....see, my friend ali set up a prayer list for you for every 15 minutes of the day. you had so many people praying for you. some knew you, some didn't. God heard all of these prayers for you and i knew you would be okay. after 5 long hours, we were told we could see you.
do you know how much i love you?? well wyatt, i love you more than i could have ever imagined. i feel so lucky because i got to fall in love with your smile twice. dr. matthews did an incredible job. from the moment we saw you after surgery, i couldn't place your face with the cleft in my mind. i am thankful for the pictures and videos, but we haven't stepped back from that day. you were a trooper. you didn't bruise like most patients. you took bottles right away unlike most patients. you my dear, are a strong little boy.
this pic was taken a few days after surgery.....seriously??? your spirits returned, it took a while, but once you felt better, you were back. we had a very very rough 5-6 weeks post surgery. long nights, i slept with you every night so that you wouldn't turn on your nose or lip.....i ran a few red lights somewhere in there because i was a zombie. after a few weeks we got a night nurse a few nights a week and what a blessing that was---sleep for mom!
you had to wear tubes in your nose for 4 months but again, you were a trooper. never messed with them, but put up a fight everytime i had to put them in, which was EVERYDAY. it was a pain for you.....i felt so sorry for you BUT, you needed them. we had to do it. and again, i fell in love with your face with tape all over it!
now, NO MORE TUBES!!! you are ONE!!!! got your tubes out today!! you are GORGEOUS just like the day you were born.
you are SUCH  joy. your eyes speak volumes. you are happy, you are a mama's boy, you love your brother so much, you love to throw the ball, you now love to eat real food and are doing so well at learning to chew! food still comes out of your nose, but that will change at the next surgery in a few months.
you can climb the stairs and go down them backwards, you stand for a few seconds but haven't taken any steps yet. you say "mama" and are trying "bye bye", you have never met a stranger and smile at everyone you see. your favorite thing to do is wave.....mostly at yourself in mirrors and anyone you see ;)
you give the best hugs and wrap your little hands around my neck every morning when i get you up. you are sleeping wonderfully. you have 5 teeth and have started biting my shoulder and it hurts!!! we call you "stinker" and "love bug". you love the pool and bath, you hate putting on clothes or diapers. you are into EVERYTHING.
we love you more than i can put into words. you have changed us for the better. shown us what true beauty  and courage is. you have a long road ahead of you with surgeries, dentists, speech, etc but i KNOW you will be a rockstar in it all. you have a drive in you that i witnessed on your first day of life when you tried so hard to eat and never gave up until finally your dad and i learned how to feed you. you were just waiting on us ;) we will do everything together wyatt, as a family.
you my dear, you completed us.
happy birthday love bug.

BOWLING LIKE A BOSS.

thursday was date day and my little man and i went bowling. my aunt and cousin joined us which was so much fun! i called the night before and asked if they were open, how much , etc. well, i called george pappas lanes. it was $1.50 to rent shoes, free for kids and $1.50 per game. score.
got to george pappas lanes, the OLD george pappas lanes that are now ten park and it was $18 a game. FAIL.
anyway, we had a good time. when i asked for the ramp the girl laughed at me. like, rudely laughed at me.
don't you hate when you think of things to say to someone AFTER the fact that they are rude? i was in the car on the way home thinking of things i could have said instead of " huh? what? it is for a 3 year old, he has never bowled" and again, she laughed and said "oh, it's nothing, just funny".
what the hell did i miss?
anyway, on to the fun stuff.
lawton LOVED it! he tried to take all of our turns
cute baby bowing shoes. MUCH better than the adult ones. i am a size 10 and she pulled mine up and i was like, wait, do they run big? because they looked like boats. um, no, true to size. POUT.
always orange everything. even when his dad isn't there ;)
this is him dancing saying "OH YEAH! WHUP UM GANGUM STAR" yes, that is his version. thanks a lot Will brown!

later after nap, my brother took a little time off work to take him to the park and get ice cream. sounds like it should have been lawton's birthday or something ;)
he posted this on instagram and i had to share....
i am the one who put in the carseat. confession: i have never put a carseat in or taken one out. IN 3.5 YEARS. i have no idea how. i rigged it but it looks very dangerous from this point of view. the strap if at his neck.....FAIL....AGAIN.
well, you learn something new everyday and today, i didn't learn that. maybe tomorrow ;)

awwww sookie sookie!

look who is eating actual FOOD!!!!

still small bites, but he likes waffles, pancakes, peas, mandarin oranges, eggs, cheese toast, blueberry muffins and bananas. he likes them because those are the only things i have tried. i am so excited about it!
i gave him puffs this morning and it ain't no thang! woop woop!!!
ONE STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. HUGE STEP!
this boy LOVES to eat now. it makes me so excited!! i will gradually get to bigger bites when i think he can handle it. but for now, we will just take what we can get!
oranges and peas coming out his nose because his hard palate is still open. when he sneezes while eating, it really burns him and he slams his hands down on the tray and screams ;( so it will be a good thing once the whole palate is closed and he will then get used to eating another new way.
had to take a pic and share. i love a sleeping baby. my baby turns ONE in 4 days!

Blowing Rock Weekend

this weekend we went to blowing rock with my family - my parents rented a house for the weekend and it was so much fun!
 me and my handsome dad
 my handsome brother

friday my mom and i went to the outlets and we all had a great dinner and drinks. that night was a LONG one. i love seeing everyone's pics from the summer traveling - it all looks like so much fun, but let's be real. are all your kids sleeping? are you not tired?
lawton had a cold, which almost always goes to his chest. jack was in a room with him, because you know, he won't sleep alone somewhere else. not jack, lawton ;) anyway, they were up most of the night with him coughing.
meanwhile, i was in a room with wyatt, who cried ALL NIGHT LONG. he caught lawton's cold and with his palate still open, his drainage goes out his nose, through his palate, down his throat, etc. it is a mess. so, no tubes all weekend because it would just be gross. trent heard him crying all night, therefore he didn't get any sleep either. and when i say sleep, we prob got 1.5 hours the whole night.
good times!
THANKFULLY, we all rallied and weren't that exhausted. don't know how, but i don't ask questions anymore.

we headed to Tweetsie around 9:30 saturday morning. i think the adults were more excited than the kids!
tweetsie brings back so many memories for me. my grandparents had a house in grandfather mountain and they would take all of my cousins up for the weekend and to tweetsie. like at least 12 kids at a time. i remember being TERRIFIED of the indians that came on the train and scared the you know what out of us kids. i also remember getting off the teacups ride and stumbling, then throwing up on the pavement. therefore, i never have been on a spinning ride since.
anyway, back to our day ;)
waiting for the train to arrive
mom and trent got super into it with their hats ;) i think that was the first time trent has worn this hat sober.
 here it comes!
 wyatt waving to the conductor
we warned lawton about the indians and told him to shoot them (awesome parenting)

then the gun fire started...here are his reactions ;)
the indians were BOGUS. look at this white dude with facial hair in clown makeup?!!
all he did was walk through the car. back in the day, they ran through with tomahawks screaming their heads off!
lawton was just deaf after the shots - indians didn't scare this guy. he rode all the way back like this.

next up was a dog show that travels around the world. trent has seen them on ESPN before. they asked for volunteers and wyatt raised his hand...sorry bud, too young

wouldn't let anyone hold his gun. jack wouldn't let anyone hold his fudge

we had a great day at tweetsie, it was fun for everyone! loved doing this with my family
ps- trent is the best uncle. he helped with the boys so much. i am a lucky sister ;) he will make a great father one day
and.....everyone slept saturday night!
alright mom and dad, start planning next years trip, we had a great time!
