music to my ears
there aren't any pictures or videos in this post. i was living in the sweet moment....holding a video camera wouldn't have been the same. this is a moment that i will lock away in my heart. as i was giving lawton a bath tonight, i started to sing (softly people, softly - my voice isn't THAT horrible when it is on volume 2) row, row, row your boat. after the first verse, lawton copied me in the same small voice. then merrily, etc, he did the same thing. it was in the top 5 sweetest sounds i have heard from him along with his giggle and him breathing on my shoulder as an infant. i didn't know that he knew this song (school i guess) and i never thought he would try and mimic me. and then i realized: my boy is growing up. he is walking and singing all in a matter seconds. next will be running and talking to me. oh, and today, he said mama! granted, it was to the kitchen sink, but i will take it. today i got teary eyed twice at lawton's voice...when we were at the doctor checking his ears (mother's instinct was right) and i had to hold him down, the screaming nearly did me in. i had to take deep breaths after it was over. WORST SOUND IN THE WORLD. then we come to tonight, and this innocent, sweet little voice captivated me and i realized this is what life is all about. being in the moment and singing with your child. not checking your blackberry, not taking a video or picture to "document" it, not rushing the bathtime to get him in bed by a certain time. i sat there, we sang, we smiled, we giggled and we enjoyed every second of it. this was a lesson to me : sit back and enjoy the ride brooke, they grow up too fast.
